Studies on reinforcement learning for enhanced language processing

As NLP continues to advance and contribute to the artificial intelligence revolution, large language models (LLMs) are at the core of most innovations. However, the development of LLMs from scratch is cost intensive. Many research efforts therefore seek cost effective ways to produce efficient LLMs. Although LLMs are good data generators, they are also data hungry and have been shown to perform better after sufficient training with data. Reinforcement learning is one technique researchers are using to exploit the data generating ability of LLMs towards performance enhancement. The technique uses data generated by LLMs to further expand their competencies and improve their performance quality. This comparison compares some works deploying reinforcement learning in diverse NLP downstream tasks.
