Groote Eylandt Environmental Survey 2016, Northern Territory (ALC)

Towed Video transects + Digital StillsStereo BRUVSCTDMultibeamSediment SamplesRV Solander completed a broad-scale multibeam survey of the Groote Eylandt Indigenous Protection Aarea (IPA) covering as much of the IPA from the 15m isobath to the nominated Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) IPA boundary for sea country as possible, based on an approximately 1.2km grid. In addition running towed video transects of ~1.5km length for benthic communities and deploying stereo BRUVs units to assess fish diversity and abundance in a subset of the area surveyed was completed. Surface sediments were collected to establish baseline/background environmental conditions for metals and other selected contaminants.The project comprises seven different components across several years that together will provide the data required to produce benthic habitat maps of the Groote Eylandt declared IPA. Each of these components will be completed through collaborations between the AIMS and ALC Staff and the Rangers.
