The increase of novel animal pathogens has been on an exponetial trend over the last decade. As such, viruses are a major contributor to infection and thus, veterinary surveillance and testing is greatly needed to accurately and rapidly detect outbreak. Currently, common practices of detection includes the use of probes and antibodies which requires previous knowledge to obtain an accurate detection. Here, we developed a rapid and highly reproducible sequenced-based approach to identify pathogens from clinical samples. Using long read data, we were able to obtain identification in 12 hours or less.
