Acidiphilium sp. PM was isolated at Rio Tinto (Huelva, Spain). Total genomic DNA was extracted from a liquid culture grown from an isolated colony. Acidiphilium are facultatively aerobic, acidophilic, chemoorganotrophic, gram-negative alpha-proteobacteria. Acidiphilium sp. strain PM has been shown to be capable of using ferric iron as an electron sink for repiration, even in the presence of oxygen.
