VPRS 12490 List of Authorised File Classifications and Register of General Correspondence Files, Multiple Number System

This series was used to assist in the classification of National Parks inward and outward correspondence. With the primary and secondary subject classifications in hand, registry staff would have referred to the register of files (pages 5-200) to see if a file on that subject had already been registered or to obtain the next file number available.The primary classification numbers or subject headings were listed on pages 3-4, VPRS 12490 List of Authorised File Classifications and Register of General Correspondence Files, Multiple Number System.National parks were listed by their titles and secondary classification numbers or subject headings on page 1, VPRS 12490. Other secondary classifications were unique to each primary classification and are listed throughout the register on pages 5-200.Standard tertiary classifications or subject headings for the primary headings Works Programmes and Declared National Parks were listed on page 2. Otherwise, tertiary numbers indicate different aspects or cases of the same subject. Part files (part 1, part 2, etc.) were indicated by a fourth number.
