Modern Indonesian Literature

This dataset presents a diachronic corpus of Modern Indonesian literature in the Indonesian language, covering the period 1920–2000. It comprises 58 literary works representing major literary periods, including Balai Pustaka, Pujangga Baru, Angkatan 45, Angkatan 50, Angkatan 66, Angkatan 70, Angkatan 80, and 90. The corpus contains approximately 1.6–1.7 million tokens and is designed to support quantitative and computational approaches to diachronic linguistics and literary analysis. Each text is provided in cleaned plain-text format derived from OCR-processed printed sources. The dataset includes structured metadata fields such as ID, title, author, year, literary period, genre, orthography system, word count, and copyright status. In addition, the corpus provides tokenized and lemmatized versions of each text to facilitate computational reuse. The dataset captures orthographic variation across historical periods, including Van Ophuijsen, Soewandi, and EYD spelling systems, enabling research on language standardization and lexical change in Indonesian. Due to copyright constraints, not all full texts are openly distributable. Where applicable, access is provided through metadata, processed excerpts, or references to original sources. This dataset is intended for reuse in corpus linguistics, digital humanities, and Indonesian literary studies.
