AN XMM SPECTRAL SURVEY OF EXTREMELY RED OBJECTS IN THE S2F5 FIELD

We propose a deep (75 ksec) XMM pointing over a field where we are assemblingnear infrared spectroscopy of a complete sample of EROs. The XMM data,complemented with our optical/infrared imaging and near infrared spectroscopywill allow us: 1. to investigate the global spectral properties of a significantsample of optically nearinfrared selected EROs; 2. to evaluate the fraction ofAGN amongst EROs and to study the starburstAGN connection; 3. to give a lowerlimit on the space density of highluminosity type 2 AGNs and 4. to shed lighton the broad band properties of the Xray selected EROs at fainter optical nearinfrared magnitudes.
