Rural labor conditions: Wage worker and employer survey data (Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia)

This database supports the study <i>“An inquiry into labor conditions across key rural sectors in Africa.”</i> It contains two datasets: (1) survey data from individuals engaged in wage employment, and (2) survey data collected from employers in rural areas of Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, and Zambia.The wage‐worker data include information on demographics, education, wages, contract types, working hours, benefits, and job satisfaction. The employer data provide details on firm characteristics, recruitment practices, wages, contract arrangements, and labor demand.These datasets provide matched insights into rural labor conditions, enabling the analysis of wage levels, job quality, and employment patterns across various sectors. They provide a valuable resource for understanding rural labor markets and informing policies aimed at improving decent work in rural Africa.
