We tested if acute infection in infancy has long-term effects on microbiota composition in adulthood. For this C57BL/6J mice were infected with influenza A virus at the age of seven days and small intestinal samples (duodenum and jejunum) as well as feces were collected 8 weeks later. Total organ or fecal DNA was extracted and the 16S rRNA gene was amplified by specific PCR as described under PMID: 29321057. Libaries were subjected to next generation sequencing.
