Votive relief to Osiris Mystes (associated with initiation into the mysteries)

This is the oldest evidence of the mysteries of Isis and Osiris. Combining Greek beliefs with the Egyptian cult, these mysteries operated as a means of attracting followers and renewing the priesthood. The relief shows the donor's parents, priest of the Egyptian deities. The young man behind the altar may represent a cult statu of the young Osiris.
