Much of genome and modern biology research is done with reductionist approaches using model organisms. <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i> S288C is one such model organism that serves as a platform for investigating eukaryotic cellular processes as well as gene regulation and genetics. Although the genome of <i>S. cerevisiae</i> S288C was sequenced early in the genomic era, its compendium of gene identifier, gene function and gene sequence remain hidden from view of biologists without access to bioinformatic tools. More importantly, the genome of <i>S. cerevisiae</i> S288C is distributed across 16 chromosomes, which makes the task of searching for particular gene and its sequence more difficult. This work sought to ameliorate the above challenge by using an in-house MATLAB software to parse the annotated genome sequence files of <i>S. cerevisiae </i>S288C obtained from Genbank. Both gene identifier and gene sequence were catalogued in an Excel database for all genes in the genome of <i>S. cerevisiae </i>S288C. Overall, the presented gene database should provide ease of access to gene information of <i>S. cerevisiae</i> S288C; thereby, serving as a useful tool in molecular cloning and genome editing studies aiming to understand fundamental cellular processes and biotechnological potential of this important eukaryotic model organism.<br><br>
基因组学与现代生物学研究多采用以模式生物为对象的还原论研究方法。酿酒酵母(*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*)S288C是这类模式生物之一,可作为研究真核细胞过程、基因调控及遗传学的实验平台。尽管酿酒酵母S288C的基因组在基因组学时代早期就已完成测序,但对于无法获取生物信息学工具的研究者而言,该菌株的基因标识符、基因功能及基因序列汇编资料仍难以获取。更关键的是,酿酒酵母S288C的基因组分布于16条染色体上,这使得检索特定基因及其序列的任务难度大幅提升。
本研究借助自研MATLAB软件,对从GenBank获取的酿酒酵母S288C注释基因组序列文件进行解析,以解决上述难题。研究将该菌株所有基因的标识符与序列整理录入Excel数据库中。总体而言,本研究构建的基因数据库可便捷获取酿酒酵母S288C的基因信息,可为旨在解析这一重要真核模式生物的核心细胞过程与生物技术潜力的分子克隆、基因组编辑相关研究提供实用工具。
