Serengeti bacteria sequencing

We sequenced bacteria from 7 sites, 42 soil samples total, from the Serengeti National Park. The goal of this project was to quantify the importance of grazing and environmental filtering on the structure of bacterial communities. Half of our samples had a grazing exclosure to prevent grazing by large mammalian herds. We found that there is a subtle effect of grazing and that much of the bacterial community is structured by environmental gradients of soil texture and phosphorus.
