Physical exposure to earthquakes of MMI categories higher than 9 1973-2007

This dataset includes an estimate the annual economical exposition to earthquakes of MMI categories higher than 9 over the period 1973-2007. It is based on two data sources: 1) Modified Mercalli Intensity map available in the Shakemap Atlas from USGS. 2) A population grid for the year 2010, provided by LandScanTM Global Population Database (Oak Ridge, TN: Oak Ridge National Laboratory). Unit is expected average annual population (2010 as the year of reference) exposed (inhabitants). This product was compiled by UNEP/GRID-Europe for the Global Assessment Report on Risk Reduction (GAR). It was modeled using global data.
