Conserved and divergent features of kinetochores and spindle microtubule ends from five species

Shown is one of 51 related tomograms that show the material that surrounds the plus end of each kinetochore microtubule identified in CrM1, a Chlamydomonas metaphase cell. Each shows a volume used to study the structures associated with the KMT-chromosome interface. For the observations in the paper, however, we used the Slicer module in the IMOD software package to tilt the plane of sampling and view so we could rotate around each MT end and see the flaring protofilaments to best advantage.
