Next-generation sequencing is a kind of high throughput technology, which can quickly identify pathogens and guide clinical diagnosis and treatment by sequencing target genes. In this paper, by comparing the results obtained by metagenomic next-generation sequencing and target next-generation sequencing in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples of the same patients, it is concluded that target next-generation sequencing is superior to metagenomic next-generation sequencing in the etiological diagnosis of community acquired pneumonia in children. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing has been widely used in some countries and regions due to its mature technology. However, its high price, complicated interpretation process and other factors make some clinicians afraid to choose. Target next-generation sequencing shares the same consistency with metagenomic next-generation sequencing and has more benefits. On the basis of higher specificity, target next-generation sequencing is also faster and more affordable than metagenomic next-generation sequencing, which has a good promotion significance and value for the etiological diagnosis of clinical respiratory diseases.
