Short description Municipal solid waste generated per capita per day Summary This indicator shows the generated municipal solid waste (MSW) in kg/capita/day in the year 2020 for 196 countries. MSW is generated by households, retailers and other small businesses as well as public service providers. It includes for example food waste, packaging, household items, furniture and electronic goods. Since MSW is generated regularly by all residents it needs to have a collection scheme which is accessible for everyone. Waste management can be distinguished between controlled and uncontrolled. Controlled waste is collected, and then either recycled or disposed of in a controlled facility. Uncontrolled waste is not collected, and therefore dumped or burned in the open by the waste generator or collected and then dumped or burned at its final destination.
