VPRS 15930 Fire Claim Registers, Closer and Soldier Settlement

Under the provisions of the Closer and Soldier Settlement Acts, settlers were required to take out fire insurance. This series records claims made on that insurance including those made after the major bushfire of 1939 (Black Friday) and after other bushfires which caused damage in considerable areas as those in 1944.Details given are the fire number (or claim number), the dates upon which a loss occurred and the date of the advice, the file number, the name of the insured person, the property being claimed for (fencing, dwelling, shed or outbuildings), the sum for which they were insured, the location of the property (the number of the lot and the parish), the amount of the claim for buildings or for fencing, the date the claim was paid and any remarks.
