Based on the species composition, hierarchical structural diversity of tropical natural forests, and the succession patterns of plant communities, this study conducted research on plant introduction and community configuration on barren hillsides that had suffered from severe soil and water loss for over a century. Over the past 25 years, by integrating engineering and biological restoration measures and selecting drought-tolerant, infertile soil-tolerant, fast-growing pioneer tree species, we carried out afforestation on barren hills and reconstructed pioneer plant communities. A 6,000-mu demonstration plot of diverse tropical plantation forests was established. This study preliminarily explored the pathway to restoring barren hills into multi-layered, multi-species broad-leaved mixed forests, and provides valuable guidance for the rehabilitation and utilization of similar coastal eroded lands.
