METAPHORS IN ENGLISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE

This article looks at metaphors in English political discourse. Metaphors are not only a tool used in literature or poetry. They are also a common and powerful part of political language. Politicians use metaphors to explain difficult ideas, to make their arguments stronger, and to shape how people think about political problems. This study looks at how metaphors work in real political speeches, interviews, and debates in English. The research uses a simple method of collecting political texts and identifying metaphors within them. The results show that political metaphors often come from a small number of common source areas, such as war, journeys, buildings, and sickness. These metaphors are not used by accident. They help politicians present their ideas in a clear and persuasive way, and they often carry hidden meanings about power, conflict, and control. The findings of this study can help students and researchers of political linguistics understand how language and politics are closely connected.
