Transcriptomic response of adductor muscle during a rare darkening phenomenon of the edible penshell Atrina maura (Bivalvia: Pinnidae).

The pen shell (Atrina maura) is a large wedge-shaped bivalve belonging to the family Pinnidae. Due to its large and nutritious adductor muscle, it is a popular seafood with high commercial value in Mexico. Nevertheless, since 2016, fishing communities have expressed growing concern about an adductor muscle rare darkening phenomenon. The poor appearance caused by the darkening of the adductor muscle of A. maura causes difficulties in its commercialization. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the transcriptomic response of A. maura to this rare darkening phenomenon.
