Sequences were obtained from MiSeq sequencing of amplicons of 16S rRNA gene V3-V4 fragments. Submitted sequences were quality filtered and trimmed and F&R reads merged. Samples were collected from surface (5m), subsurface (400 and 700m) and deep-sea (1000m) water in the Faroe Shetland Channel in Spring and Fall seasons of 2014 and 2015. Aim of the study was to explore the abundance and diversity of known hydrocarbon-biodegrading organisms within the natural microbial communities in the Faroe-Shetland Channel water
