Supporting data for “Challenges and Solutions to Removable Denture Biofilm among Older Adults”

Two sets of quantitative data from clinical studies were included.The first was a cross-sectional study of 97 participants wearing removable dentures, conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected, and denture biofilm samples were obtained. The primary outcome measures were percentage plaque area coverage, denture cleanliness index, and microbial index.The second was a prospective, two-period, crossover randomised controlled trial involving 56 older adults wearing complete or extensive partial acrylic dentures. The clinical trial was conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. Participants were randomly allocated to one of two sequences of denture-cleaning interventions:(i) ultrasonic denture cleaning with immersion in a denture cleanser solution;(ii) immersion in the same denture cleanser solution followed by manual brushing.The primary and secondary outcome measures included percentage plaque area coverage, denture stomatitis, patient-reported outcome measures, and microbial index.
