The USDA-ARS is determining the genome sequence of Varroa destructor using a whole genome shotgun approach. The DNA source is 2000 mites collected from colony 45 in the 'Mushroom' apiary of the USDA-ARS Bee Research Laboratory, Beltsville, MD, USA (N39°2.49096, W076°51.83742) in September, 2008.
