Dietary restriction (DR) extends lifespan in a broad range of organisms including mammals. In order to determine whether dietary restriction (DR) has acute and reversible effects on mortality in mammals, we conducted a late-onset DR switch experiment using mice. Therefore, old mice were switched from ad libitum (AL) feeding to DR and from DR to AL feeding and mortality rates were determined. In order to measure gene expression changes associated with the DR switch we collected several tissues 2 month after the switch. The goal of this study is to identify diferentially regulated genes between DR and AL conditions, which underlay the beneficial effects of DR on lifespan.
