GHG emission reduction targets in Germany 2030, by sector

Germany has set out the target of reaching greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045. To achieve this goal, the country's greenhouse gas emissions will need to be cut by 65 percent by 2030, relative to 1990 levels. As of 2023, Germany's emissions were roughly 46 percent below 1990 levels. The energy industry - the largest source of greenhouse gases in Germany - had cut emissions by some 57 percent below 1990 levels as of 2023. For Germany to reach its target, energy industry emissions will need to be 77 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
