China Geological Survey: 1:1 500 000Geological Map and Database of the People’s Republic of China (Northeast China)

The cartographic design of the Geological Map of the People’s Republic of China (Northeast China) at a scale of 1:1500,000 is guided by the plate tectonics theory, Earth system science, and continental dynamics, with the geological structural evolution as the main framework. It is based on 1:500000geological maps of the Daxing’anling metallogenic belt and the metallogenic belts in eastern part in Liaoning-Jilin-Heilongjiang provinces, systematically reviewing regional geological survey data up to 2016. By revising the tectono-stratigraphic framework and intrusive rock series in Northeast China, the map completes a systematic update and a spatial database has been established. The database uses the geological time scale recommended by the All China Commission of Stratigraphy in 2012, emphasizing the expression of plate or microcontinental suture zones and special lithologies. The legend is presented in the form of a spatiotemporal structure table, improving the readability and clarity of the geological map. The dataset is approximately 105MB and includes 308 sedimentary units, 3347 geological bodies; 419 igneous units, 5129 geological bodies; 120 metamorphic units, 1080 geological bodies; 14 special geological units, 111 geological bodies; over 10000 fault segments of various scopes; 294 isotopic ages (groups); 151 typical fossil sites; 128 important volcanic craters; and 31 representative drill holes. All geological bodies, isotopic ages, drill holes, and other professional map layers have attributes established, along with explanatory documents and metadata. The database adopts national standard libraries for line types, symbols, and color codes. The mapping process was completed through the MapGIS 6.7 platform, ensuring high precision and quality, and has passed final acceptance. This 1:1500000geological map and database is the first of its kind for Northeast China, filling the gap in the national geological database system for the region. It broadens the application scope of regional geological and thematic research results, provides foundational data for big data of geology and GeoCloud construction and services, and serves as a basis for the creation of various foundational, specialized, and thematic maps.
