Images from an Archaeological Excavation at Guyzance Avenue, Togston Road, North Broomhill, Northumberland, October 2022

This collection comprises images from a Strip Map And Sample Excavation at land northeast of Guyzance Avenue, Togston Road, North Broomhill, Northumberland. This work was undertaken by Rocket Heritage and Archaeology Ltd in October 2022. The proposed methodology was to excavate an area 36.80m by 43.80m in the southeast area of the field. The area was machine excavated under constant archaeological supervision, using a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless ditching bucket. The results from the archaeological fieldwork have demonstrated the absence of archaeological potential of the site, with particularly high levels of truncation as a result of multiple regimens of ploughing and natural rooting activity. An earlier trial trenching scheme demonstrated small scale archaeological potential and this work explored that assumption. It is now clear that earlier work actually identified rooting events, which were subsequently recorded during this phase of work.
