U. esculenta, as a living trophic fungus, specifically infects Zizania latifolia plants and induces stem expansion to form an unique vegetable named Jiaobai in China. Elucidating the genome of U. esculenta may play a important role in revealing the possible interaction mechanisms between Z. latifoli and U. esculenta inducing Jiaobai stem gall formation.
