Survey of viruses of wild Solanum species in South Africa

The study surveyed 11 wild Solanum species in five provinces of South Africa for viruses. Viruses of cultivated Solanum species were found in these wild Solanum species, which are often found in the nearby fields of potato, peppers, and tomato. This study, therefore, identifies wild Solanum species that may serve as reservoirs of these viruses thereby aiding in virus management efforts by elimination of such plants within agricultural fields.
