资源简介:
BACKGROUND With a commitment to nurturing new screen talent and pushing the boundaries of Australian content, the researcher uses collaborative approaches to filmmaking that challenge audiences with social and cultural issues. This can be seen with her central involvement in Screen Australia's 'Gender Matters' initiative, with which Maslin challenges both industry approaches to film production and screen representations of females. A practitioner who collaborates in research projects and fora on these very topics, Maslin uses her role as producer/director to bring together creative talent and subject matter in order to tell stories critical to Australia's social, cultural and political history. Both social justice and artistic vision guide her intent. CONTRIBUTION 'Re-enchantment' is an immersive journey into the hidden meanings of fairy tales. It is part of a multi-platform project designed as a companion to the free interactive documentary. The DVD features a series of 10 x 3-minute animated documentaries (interstitials) where each episode offers a rich visual design and presents a new way of thinking about these familiar and much loved stories. Maslin and her team engaged practitioners from a range of disciplines, including psychoanalysis and the media arts, to deliver thoroughly researched material that rethinks traditional ways of reading fairy tales. SIGNIFICANCE This work's unique treatment of subject matter, capitalising on the novel presentation platforms, has activated an interdisciplinary space for the tertiary environment. This work demonstrates ways in which both traditional and innovative approaches to storytelling can be used to access diverse audiences through a distributed media approach. This has meant delivery of engaging and thought-provoking material that can be approached through a range of media (the series also included an eBook) that can be targeting for various audiences.
