This study used the techniques of DWI and DTI to offer valuable physiologically specific insights that augment conventional MRI. By sensitizing image contrast to microscopic water translations, it was possible to draw inferences about events occurring on a length scale measured in microns, comparable to cellular dimensions, and to show tremendous sensitivity to acute pathophysiological events. As demonstrated in this study, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and subsequent tractography are themselves especially valuable techniques in the context of congenital brain anomalies and aid considerably in pre surgical evaluation (primarily in patients with tumors and medically refractory epilepsy)
