16S sequencing of the Drosophila microbiome

High-throughput sequencing of bacterial 16S sequences was used to correlate bacterial species identify and abundance with fly life span. Assays were conducted using flies where life span was altered using drugs, including mifepristone, methoprene, as well as using flies where the microbiome was altered using egg sterilization or antibiotics.
