Metabolism and geochemistry of C1 and C2 low molecular weight compounds in northern Gulf of Mexico sediments collected during R/V Endeavor cruise EN559, May-June, 2015

We investigated the heterotrophic metabolism of acetate, methanol and methylamine in sediments of northern Gulf of Mexico to elucidate the role of C1 and C2 low molecular weight compounds as carbon or energy source for benthic microbial communities. The dataset reports sediment geochemistry and rates of methanogenesis, substrate oxidation or assimilation measured with radiotracers from three study sites. Data were collected on cruise EN559 on three dates May 30th, June 9th, and June 16th, 2015 on sites GC600, GC767, and Taylor Energy-1.
