Strain Milos-ODIII6 is a free-living chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacterium that was isolated from shallow-water hydrothermal sediments in Paleochori bay of the Greek island Milos. The organism is most closely related with symbiotic bacteria such as the symbiont of the scaly snail Crysomallon squamiferum and the colonial ciliate Zoothamnium niveum.
