Data, stimuli, and analysis code: Effects of Observing a Robot Expressing Approach-Avoidance Conflict on Observers' Self-Evaluations of Personal Courage

This dataset accompanies the article "Effects of Observing a Robot Expressing Approach-Avoidance Conflict on Observers' Self-Evaluations of Personal Courage." Two online survey studies examined how a robot expressing approach-avoidance conflict, presented as speech bubbles projected near the head of a cylindrical robot that encounters a person littering in a park, is perceived (Study 1) and how it relates to observers' self-evaluations of personal courage (Study 2). The dataset contains: Anonymized survey data for Study 1 (211 records) and Study 2 (213 records), including all recorded responses with exclusion flags that reproduce the analytic samples (N = 131 and N = 126) The presentation order of the videos for each participant A codebook with the original Japanese item texts and English glosses The eight stimulus videos Python code that reproduces the statistics reported in the article and its Supplementary Material Identifying information (survey platform IDs, timestamps, and IP addresses) and free-text fields have been removed.
