Optical Property Dataset of Healthy and Malaria-Infected Red Blood Cells Across Parasite Developmental Stages

The data presents information on the optical characterization of malaria infected different stages of RBCs. The dataset is obtained after simulation of an optical sensor for malaria detection. The 2D photonic crystal ring resonator sensor structure is designed and simulated using MEEP software. The refractive index data for healthy RBCs and malaria-infected RBCs at different stages, such as ring, trophozoite, and schizont, were obtained from the literature. The refractive index profile of the infected biological sample and the ring resonator structure alters the light propagation in the sensor. This change in the light propagation can help in the detection of malaria. A Gaussian light source is used with the specified wavelength with respect to the malaria-infected stages. Transmitted flux and reflected flux are obtained after the FDTD analysis, and transmission efficiency and absorption loss at the resonant frequency are calculated.
