The Application of Multi-Subject Lectures Combining Blended Instructional Mode in the Curse of Immunology-Related Experimental Skill Training in “Double First-Class” University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Objective : Training top talents and producing first-class scientific research achievements are the objectives of "Double First-Class" universities. As the main actors in scientific research activities, graduate students are the producers of first-class research achievements and serve as the key points to measure the research level of universities. Medical Immunology stands as a pivotal, cutting-edge, and fundamental discipline within the feild of life sciences and medicine. Thus, immunology technique and scientific literacy training are crucial aspect of first-class university construction. However, due to limitations such as instrumentation, funding, space, faculty expertise, and students’ knowledge base, traditional experimental immunology courses are difficult to rapidly improve the experimental skills of new graduate students in "Double First-Class" universities in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which hampers the efficiency of their training.Methods : We explored a Multi-Subject Lecture combining blended instructional modes to rapidly improve the experimental skills and scientific literacy of graduate students at minimal cost. Nine immunology-related techniques were selected for this blended approach, delivered through online sessions and offline seminars.Results : Feedback and evaluations via questionnaires showed this Multi-Subject Lecture method aids novices in swiftly familiarizing newcomers with common laboratory techniques and applications in cutting-edge research, with 9 experiments. Among these, Western Blot and Flow Cytometry are most-desired techniques for graduate students. Moreover, online sessions accommodated up to 500 students in the class, attracting more faculty and staff from both inside and outside the school. Conversely, offline teaching facilitates instructor-paced control and immediate feedback.Conclusion : This Multi-Subject Lecture combining blended model has the potential to economically and systematically offer a wider and specialized platform for systematic skill acquisition, enhancing graduates' scientific literacy, familiarizing them with prevalent techniques, fostering innovative thinking, aligning with modern research frontiers for the advancement of traditional medicine.
