The 2017 Norwegian Sámi Parliamentary Election Study

The 2017 Norwegian Sámi Parliamentary Election Study 2017 follows previous surveys from 2009 and 2013. The basic goal is to analyse the conditions for, functions of and challenges associated with a Sámi democratic system in Norway. The data material is a voter survey, where the sample is drawn among data subjects in The Sámi Parliament's electoral roll. The questions concern various aspects of the Sámi parliament election, including political issues, the legitimacy of the Sámi Parliament, voter turnout and voting, election campaigns and voters' sources of information.

In addition to the variables from the questionnaire, the data file contains the following variables: "samekrets" (Sámi district, election district in the Sámi Parliamentary Election), "vekt" (weight), "kommune" (only the 13 municipalities where more than 250 people are included in the electoral register are included as separate values, the other municipalities are combined in one aggregated category), "valgdag_stemme" (election day vote, whether you live in a municipality where it is poosible to vote on the election day) and "forvaltningsområde" (adminitrative area, whether you live in a municipality that is a part of the Sámi language administrative area). The variables gender and age are also found as census variables, in addition to being asked in the questionnaire. It is recommended to use the variables from the census. The dataset also contains a weight based on gender, age and election district, which can be used to correct for skewness due to dropouts.
