Monocyte dysfunction in COVID-19-associated mucormycosis

We looked at plasma cytokine abundance as well as phagocytic efficiency and transcriptome in circulating CD14 + monocytes from COVID-19 patients withconcomitant mucormycosis infection which revealed significant deficiency of phagocytic activity in the monocytes, a critical immune mechanism for anti-fungal innate immunity, which also corroborated with significantly reduced abundance of specific cytokines and the monocyte transcriptome.
