METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR COATING A SHORT SIDE OF A PLATE-LIKE WORKPIECE

The invention relates to a method for coating a short side (1) of a plate-like workpiece (2) with a coating material (3)， in particular a coating material (3) in the form of a strip or band， using a coating apparatus， wherein， before being applied to the short side (1) of the workpiece (2)， the coating material (3) is coloured with a basic colour (4) at least in a peripheral region (5)， which is assigned to an adhesive face (6) of the coating material (3)， or the coating material (3) is entirely coloured with the basic colour (4)， wherein the basic colour (4) is matched in terms of colour to a shade and/or pattern and/or decoration on a surface (8) of the workpiece (2)， such that， after the coating material (3) has been applied to the short side (1) of the workpiece (2)， a matched colour transition between the coloured coating material (3) and the shade and/or pattern and/or decoration on the surface (8) of the workpiece (2) is formed， and to a coating apparatus that carries out such a method.
