Comparative analysis of microbial communities between water and sediment in Laoshan Bay Marine Ranching with different aquiculture activities

Marine microbiomes including bacteria and protist play crucial roles in global biogeochemical processes and are sensitive to the change of ecological environment. Marine ranching arranged with aquaculture activities is advocated by Chinese government in order to breed and conserve fishery stocks. However, there was little attention on the microbial communities in the water and sediment of marine ranching with varied small-scale mariculture modes. In this study, we profiled the bacteria and protist community structure and dynamics in two typical aquaculture periods using Illumina Miseq sequencing of 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA.
