A cretaceous fly trap? Remarkable abdominal modification in a fossil wasp

The dataset contains all original .TIF format photos of the CT scanning data about Cretaceous Sirenobethylid wasp, No. CNU-HYM-MA2015119. Number of the TIFF images is 1718. Volume rendering and 3D reconstruction were performed using the open-source software Drishti 2.4 [1], made by the Australian National University. The specimen was collected from Noije Bum hill, about 18 km southwest of Tanai Village in the Hukawng Valley, northern Myanmar (26° 21' 33.41\" N, 96° 43' 11.88\" E) [2, 3]. All amber specimens are stored in the Key Lab of Insect Evolution and Environmental Changes, College of Life Sciences, Capital Normal University (CNUB; Dong Ren, Curator), Beijing, China [4, 5].

## Description of the data and file structure

**CT Scanning Data of Cretaceous Sirenobethylid wasp**

We described a new insect, †*Sirenobethylus charybdis*, based on Cretaceous Kachin amber and assigned the species within Chrysidoidea of Hymenoptera. The specimen was collected from Noije Bum hill, about 18 km southwest of Tanai Village in the Hukawng Valley, northern Myanmar (26° 21' 33.41\" N, 96° 43' 11.88\" E). All amber specimens are stored in the Key Lab of Insect Evolution and Environmental Changes, College of Life Sciences, Capital Normal University (CNUB; Dong Ren, Curator), Beijing, China.
