Parkinson's disease (PD) may have origins in the gastrointestinal tract (GI), yet little is known about how modifying dietary intake impacts PD. Most people with PD experience GI symptoms, and in particular, constipation, before motor symptoms appear. The goals of this study was to determine whether adhering to a five week Mediterranean diet intervention is feasible and induces beneficial changes in GI function, intestinal permeability and fecal microbial communities in individuals with PD.
