This dataset corresponds to the research paper on molecular regulation of secondary growth and environmental stress response mechanisms in forest trees, with the core content being the high-quality chromosome-level reference genome assembly of Salix suchowensis. Salix suchowensis is a shrubby willow native to China that flowers in the same growth year, and is the sister species of poplars. It boasts traits such as rapid growth, high yield, short rotation cycle, small individual size and easy propagation, making it an important species for biomass energy production and afforestation timber use. This species has a wide geographical distribution, can adapt to various ecological environments, and exhibits rich natural variation, rendering it an ideal material for forest tree genetic breeding research. In this study, we integrated third-generation PacBio sequencing and Hi-C technologies to generate a high-quality chromosome-level reference genome assembly for Salix suchowensis. The newly assembled Salix suchowensis genome has a total size of 356 Mb, with a Contig N50 of 263,908 bp, which is 65-fold that of the previous assembly. A total of 36,937 protein-coding genes were annotated, and 95.29% of the genome sequences could be anchored onto 19 chromosomes. The newly assembled genome exhibits higher continuity and completeness, which will greatly facilitate comparative genomic studies on Salicaceae species and provide high-quality genomic resources for woody plant research.
