Enrollment Trends by Sex and US Residence Status for Undergraduate and Graduate Students at a State Institution (Fall 2017–Spring 2024)

The datasets on student sex and US residence status for undergraduate and graduate students were obtained from publicly available institutional research data provided by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology's Institutional Research Tableau dashboard on August 2, 2024. These datasets have been formatted for analysis and include student counts across 14 semesters (Fall 2017 – Spring 2024).

Datasets:

SD Mines Student Enrollment.xlsx – Contains student counts by degree type, gender, and US residence status, along with visual charts.

enrollment_by_sex.csv – Number of students per semester by sex from Fall 2017 to Spring 2024.

enrollment_by_residence_status.csv – Number of undergraduate and graduate students per semester categorized by US residence status from Fall 2017 to Spring 2024.

Code:

student_enrollment_analysis.py - Python script that performs Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, Levene’s test for equal variance, independent t-tests for sex and residence status comparisons, and Regression analysis to examine enrollment trends over time for sex and residence status.

This repository provides both the datasets and analysis code to support research on student demographic trends at the instituition.
