Human gut metagenomes of psoriasis and healthy donors

In this study, a group of researchers from Russia examined the bacterial content of fecal samples from 100 donors, of which 53 people were psoriasis patients and 47 were healthy volunteers. Microbes extracted from fecal samples represent a complex consortium of bacteria derived from the large intestine (colon) and, to a lesser extent, from the small intestine. This complex bacterial consortium was cataloged by using a powerful 'shotgun sequencing' technique that read the entire genetic material and identified bacterial species and subspecies.
