Species characterisation and pathogen detection in bulk mosquito pools using metabarcoding

Metabarcoding is used to identify species in homogenised bulk mosquito pools. The pools contain up to 3 species: Aedes notoscriptus, Anopheles annulipes and Ochlerotatus camptorhynchus. Pathogen detection is also investigated in this project, with some of the pools containing Ross River virus. Improved species characterisation and pathogen detection of bulk pools will help to modernise vector surveillance programs.
