Water Consumption of Coal Mining in Coal Resource Cities in China

Every year, coal resource cities waste a large amount of water resources, produce large area of ground subsidence and polluted gas emissions due to coal mining, and cause serious damage to the ecological environment around the mines. Studying the relationship between coal mining and water resources in China's coal resource-based cities prompts coal resource-based cities to focus on urban energy resource problems and ecological environment problems, update coal mining technology and management and governance methods, and promote the sustainable and green development of coal resource-based cities and take the road of scientific development. This study takes the life cycle water use of coal production in Chinese coal resource cities as the research object using the commonly used water utilization coefficient method, and evaluates the water consumption data of coal mining in Chinese coal resource cities based on the coal production data. The results show that the water consumption of coal mining in China is mainly concentrated in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi and Shanxi in the Jin, Shaanxi, Mongolia, Ningxia and Gan regions, while other regions consume relatively less water.
