In our proposal, we propose an ambitious but promising muSR experiment to investigate Li ion diffusion in a laminated Li-ion battery, instead of conventional measurements on powder or sheet samples. Diffusion in electric fields in a battery corresponds to chemical diffusion driven by a gradient of potential energy, while the self diffusion that we have measured before is intrinsic to a material itself. In order to discuss how efficiently an electrode is utilized in a battery, it is desired to investigate the chemical diffusion and the self diffusion with a common technique. Since muSR in the only one technique to enable that, we need muSR measurement using a battery with sub-surface muons, which can be localized at cathode only or at anode only. It is noted that the self diffusion was already obtained and a trial using a battery at initiate state was successfully done with surface muons.
