Global Mangrove Watch: GMW v4.0 Reference Samples 2020

We randomly defined 44 sites for which approximately 1000 points were randomly stratified using the mangrove / non-mangrove proportions of the scene. A minimum of 250 mangrove points were generated, and therefore, the total number of points for a site could be higher than 1000. In total, 49,600 points were generated. The points were individually assessed using a combination of the Sentinel-2 imagery for 2020, the NICFI Planet base maps and higher resolution Google base maps to identify the points as mangroves or non-mangroves. These points are provided within the gmw_v4_baseline_acc_pts_all_sites.geojson vector layer where the attribute ‘ref_col’ identifies each point as “Mangrove” or “Other”.
